About radio
ALL FM is an independent community radio station based in Manchester, United Kingdom, that broadcasts on the 96.9 MHz frequency. The station began in 2000 as a project of the charity Radio Regen, starting with a four-day broadcast under the title Radio Longsight. After the success of this initial broadcast, ALL FM was established, covering the Longsight area and the neighbouring areas of Ardwick and Levenshulme. The station became an independent entity in 2002 and was granted a permanent community radio license in 2005.
The station's broadcast area includes south, central, and east Manchester, UK. ALL FM is run by a combination of paid staff and volunteers who live within its coverage area. With over a hundred active volunteers presenting and producing live radio, the station embodies an ethos of 'by the community, for the community'. It offers a range of shows, including foreign language shows, shows by and for carers, those with mental health issues, disabilities, older people and younger people and all those in between.
ALL FM's programming is diverse, reflecting the multicultural population of its broadcast area. The station broadcasts shows in French, Cantonese, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Punjabi, and Hindi. It regularly gains grant funding to train groups rarely heard on radio and podcasts, and it has a commitment to promoting gender equality in its production and presentation teams.
Listeners can tune in live or listen to previous shows online through the station's website. The station also provides training opportunities in radio and podcasting for individuals, groups, and businesses, with the belief that everyone should have a voice.
