Capital FM, officially known as Capital UK, positions itself as the UK's No.1 Hit Music Station. It is a network of twelve independent contemporary hit radio stations in the United Kingdom, broadcasting a mix of local and networked programming. Ten of the stations are owned and operated by Global Media & Entertainment, while the other two are owned and operated under separate franchise agreements. As of March 2023, the stations serve a combined weekly audience of 6.1 million listeners and target a core audience in the 15–34 age group; 57% of all listeners are within this demographic​​.

The station started as an independent music radio station for London in the early 1970s and has since evolved through several mergers and rebrandings. Its playlist, which is updated weekly, primarily features songs from the last one to two years, distinguishing it from stations like BBC Radio 1 that also play rock or alternative music​​.

Capital FM is a top 40 station owned by Global Radio, broadcasting from studios in Leicester Square and heard throughout the UK on additional FM stations and the Digital One national DAB multiplex. The station has a strong online presence, with over 1.3 million followers on Twitter and its official website providing live streaming and updates on current shows and events.
