It serves approximately 200,000 people in Colchester and surrounding areas, one of the fastest-growing regions in the country. It was initially named Radio Wivenhoe, founded by Jerry Davis in his back bedroom, before changing its name to Colne Radio in February 2014. The station operates 24 hours a day, every day, offering a mix of music, news, and views presented by local people for local communities such as Colchester, Brightlingsea, St. Osyth, Rowhedge, and Alresford. The station prides itself on its locally relevant content, including regular interviews about the work of the area\'s voluntary organizations, produced by local volunteers. With a potential audience of 120,000 customers across North East Essex and an estimated 10,000 listeners with a reach of 70,000 locally, Colne Radio has a significant presence in the community and beyond. The station is run entirely by volunteers, and its primary aim is to provide local communities and organizations a platform to be heard and promote social cohesion in the area1.
