The original Atlantic 252 was an Irish longwave radio station that started broadcasting in 1989 from its purpose-built transmission site at Clarkstown radio transmitter, County Meath. Its studios were located 12 km away in Mornington House, Summerhill Road, Trim, County Meath, and it also had sales offices and studios at 74, Newman Street in London. The station was known for its wide signal reach, with reception reports coming from locations as diverse as Berlin, Finland, Ibiza, Moscow, and even Brazil at night-time.
The first official record played on the launch date of Atlantic 252 was "Sowing the Seeds of Love" by Tears for Fears, which was followed by "Monkey" by George Michael2. The station had a rich lineup of personalities, including Charlie Wolf, Henry Owens, Mary Ellen O'Brien, Dusty Rhodes, Al Dunne, Tony West, Jeff Graham, and newsreader Andrew Turner.
