About radio
KFM Radio, based in Stockport, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom, is a prominent online radio station, providing its listeners with a wide array of music genres and content 24/7. This station has made strides in public access, allowing listeners to tune in via various platforms such as iPhone, Amazon's Alexa/Echo devices, and directly from their website.
Originally established in the 1980s, KFM Radio has a rich history. The station was initially an unlicensed, or 'pirate', radio station that began with test transmissions from local pub car parks and hilltops. Despite being unlicensed, the station managed to establish itself quickly, gaining a rapidly growing following with a mix of national and local music. It eventually moved its studio location to Goyt Mill, where the transmitter was based, and even had an hourly news service.
KFM Radio was known for hosting a number of renowned DJs and personalities, including Dave Starr, Rob Charles, Terry Christian, Jon Ronson, Caroline Aherne, Neil Cossar, Joe Patricks, Spence MacDonnald, and Craig Cash, among others. The station was critically acclaimed in its legal days, although it struggled commercially and underwent several changes in ownership and name before it was revived as an online radio station in November 2014.
