About radio
Radio Sonar is a multi-award winning online student radio station that broadcasts live from Solent University in Southampton, United Kingdom. Since its launch on 1st September 2009, the station has grown to become an integral part of the university experience for many students and online listeners worldwide.
Originally known as Sin FM, Radio Sonar was founded by Giacomo Shimmings in 1998, and it transitioned to an online platform upon securing a Low Powered AM (LPAM) licence. The name change to Radio Sonar occurred in 2009 as part of a broader rebranding initiative within the Student Union media, now collectively known as Sonar Media.
Listeners can enjoy a diverse range of music genres and engage with the station through its interactive features. This allows for a rich listening experience that sets Radio Sonar apart from many other student-run radio stations. Importantly, DJs have full control over their playlists and can recommend songs, enhancing the listener-friendly nature of the station.

How is the rating calculated?
The more people listen to the radio station during the last 7 days, the higher it ranks.
Only unique plays are counted; repeatedly reloading the page or pressing “Play” multiple times does not affect the ranking.
