About radio
CamGlen Radio is a community radio station based in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The radio station exists to serve the communities of Rutherglen, Cambuslang, and surrounding areas in the South East of Glasgow and South Lanarkshire, with a notable online presence as well as broadcasting on 107.9FM. CamGlen Radio is accessible worldwide through the internet, offering the opportunity for listeners to tune in live from any location via their website CamGlenRadio.org/live.
Founded in 2007, CamGlen Radio became a full-time service in 2015. The station's journey to full-time broadcasting included numerous short-term broadcasts and a comprehensive application process for a full-time broadcasting license, which was granted in 2012. The launch of the full-time station was delayed due to a significant grant received by their parent organization, Healthy n Happy, which allowed for the refurbishment of their base of operations, a former church hall in Rutherglen.
The station provides a mix of modern and older songs, typically comprising a 3:1 music/speech mix during daytime, with varied musical output in the evenings. As per their broadcasting license, 90% of the station's output must be locally produced, and they must broadcast locally-produced output for a minimum of 13 hours a day, of which eight hours must be original, non-repeat content.
As a part of the Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust, a charity registered in Scotland, CamGlen Radio operates with a focus on community service and development1. They rely heavily on volunteers, who receive in-house training on a variety of topics, to make the station's broadcasting a reality.
