About radio

Drystone Radio is a not-for-profit community radio station that operates both online and via terrestrial broadcasts on frequencies 103.5 FM (Craven) and 102.0 FM (Ilkley & Wharfedale). Serving the communities across South Craven, Wharfedale, and parts of the southern Yorkshire Dales, Drystone Radio provides a platform for local news, issues, and interests, reaching a potential audience of 100,000 listeners.

Drystone Radio has a unique place in the UK radio landscape, giving people within communities a voice while providing exciting and diverse radio content. The station's mission is to promote active community involvement, social inclusion, diversity, and quality within the Yorkshire Dales area. This is achieved through using community radio as a tool for cohesion, expression, and skills development.

The station was founded by David Adams, initially broadcasting over the internet, and later expanding to FM broadcasting in 2009. Drystone Radio has continued to evolve, with schedule revisions in 2012 to include regular weekday programming and specialist shows during the evenings and weekends. In 2014, the station implemented a frequency change to resolve interference issues, introducing new imaging and a new website. Further enhancements were made in 2020, when Drystone Radio was awarded an extension to its license to serve the neighbouring district of Ilkley, providing opportunities to broadcast from a new studio in the Ilkley’s Clarke Foley Centre.
