About the Radio Station
Hospital Radio Norwich is a voluntary organisation and registered charity that provides a comforting and entertaining radio service to patients at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Established in 1974, it has become a staple in patient care, broadcasting a wide variety of music, local and visiting personality interviews, and news bulletins from Sky News 24 hours a day, seven days a week. With an enthusiastic volunteer team of approximately 25 people handling the day-to-day operations, Hospital Radio Norwich offers live commentary of all Norwich City home games for sports fans, occasional outside broadcasts of local events, and features a popular request programme that plays a personal choice of music and dedications each evening (except Sundays). The service is free for patients, carried by bedside media units in the hospital, and is also available online. The station is entirely self-financed, relying on grants, contributions, and donations from individuals and local businesses.
