Capital FM, officially known as Capital UK, positions itself as the UK\'s No.1 Hit Music Station. It is a network of twelve independent contemporary hit radio stations in the United Kingdom, broadcasting a mix of local and networked programming. Ten of the stations are owned and operated by Global Media & Entertainment, while the other two are owned and operated under separate franchise agreements. The station started as an independent music radio station for London in the early 1970s and has since evolved through several mergers and rebrandings. Capital FM is a top 40 station owned by Global Radio, broadcasting from studios in Leicester Square and heard throughout the UK on additional FM stations and the Digital One national DAB multiplex.
