About radio
RaW 1251AM is an award-winning student radio station based at the University of Warwick, England. Founded in the 1970-71 academic year, it initially began as University Radio Warwick, later rebranding to RaW, and now broadcasts on 1251 kHz AM from the Students' Union HQ building. The station streams all its output online, providing a live listen to its wide audience.
RaW 1251AM has a rich history of making an impact both locally and nationally. In 2005, it was the official broadcaster for the International Children's Games held in Coventry. Later that year, David Davis, the Shadow Home Secretary and one of the station's founders, launched his bid for the Conservative Party leadership with a visit to RaW.
Not just a platform for broadcasting, RaW 1251AM is also a space for innovation and community service. In 2006, the station underwent major renovations, including the installation of a bespoke digital playout system and the construction of a new office space for DJs to work undisturbed. The station has also been involved in a number of charity initiatives. For instance, in 2011, four members embarked on a charity fundraiser named "RAW on Tour", visiting 52 student radio stations in England within a week and raising over £1,000 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
