Cheshire\'s Silk 106.9 is an Independent Local Radio station that serves Macclesfield and parts of East Cheshire. Owned and operated by neighbouring station Chester\'s Dee Radio, Silk 106.9 is one of the last independent commercial broadcasters in the UK, locally owned and deeply committed to the area it serves. Launched on 25 May 1998, the station has become a mainstay of the local community, with its signal reaching as far as Lancashire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Greater Manchester, and Merseyside. In May 2023, the station celebrated its 25th anniversary by launching on DAB on the South Cheshire Multiplex, expanding its reach and accessibility. Silk 106.9 is deeply ingrained in its community, awarding the title of School of the Week to schools within its broadcast area, and recognizing local heroes with its \"Local Hero awards\".
