Cheshire\'s Silk 106.9 is an Independent Local Radio station that serves Macclesfield and parts of East Cheshire. Broadcasting a mix of current and classic hits, alongside local news and sport, the station offers a unique and engaging listening experience for its weekly audience of 12,000. Owned and operated by neighbouring station Chester\'s Dee Radio, Silk 106.9 is one of the last independent commercial broadcasters in the UK, locally owned and deeply committed to the area it serves​. Launched on 25 May 1998, the station has become a mainstay of the local community, with its signal reaching as far as Lancashire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Greater Manchester, and Merseyside. In May 2023, the station celebrated its 25th anniversary by launching on DAB on the South Cheshire Multiplex, expanding its reach and accessibility​​. You can now listen live to Silk 106.9 on FM, Radioplayer UK, and online, making it easier than ever for listeners to tune in from anywhere​​. Silk 106.9 is deeply ingrained in its community, awarding the title of School of the Week to schools within its broadcast area, and recognizing local heroes with its \"Local Hero awards\". The station also provides extensive coverage of local events, like the annual Cheshire Show​​. Silk 106.9\'s commitment to quality and engagement has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Sony Radio Station of the Year in 2008, and being named the Radio Academy North West Station of the Year in 2006, 2007, and 2008​​. Listeners can enjoy live programming from 6am-7pm on weekdays, 8am-6pm on Saturdays, and 8am-8pm on Sundays. The station also airs hourly local and national news bulletins from Radio News Hub, along with regular sports programming, including coverage of Macclesfield FC and Congleton Town​.
