About radio
Fun Kids is a nationally recognized children's and pop digital radio station in the United Kingdom. Renowned for its diverse programming and cross-platform approach, it caters to the expectations of young listeners who are growing up in a digital age.
Initially launched as Fun Radio in May 2005, it was acquired by Folder Media in September 2008 and rebranded as Fun Kids. The station has a rich history of broadcasting on various platforms, from DAB Digital Radio in select areas to nationwide broadcasting on the national Digital One multiplex. Today, it is not just a radio station, but a comprehensive media brand that broadcasts online, live on DAB Digital Radio across the UK, and on mobile platforms.
Fun Kids has proven to be a training ground for many young radio presenters, with a current presenter line-up that includes George Butler, Dan Simpson, Bex Lindsay, Conor Knight, Robyn Richford, Emma-Louise Amanshia, and Georgia Kain.
In 2019, Fun Kids expanded its offerings by launching Fun Kids Junior, a sister radio station aimed at preschool children and their parents. This station offers songs for children to sing and dance to during the day, as well as bedtime stories and lullabies during the evening and overnight. Fun Kids Junior broadcasts on DAB+ Digital Radio in select areas, on the Fun Kids website, and via the Fun Kids app and smart speakers.
The following year, Fun Kids launched eight additional stations, each with its unique focus, ranging from animals to classical music. The classical music station, Fun Kids Classical, even boasts the concert pianist Lang Lang as its ambassador.
Fun Kids' programming is carefully tailored to its target audience. During breakfast hours, hometime, and on weekends, it targets 7-12 year-olds with content comparable to that found on Nickelodeon or Disney Channel. When these children are at school, the station broadcasts preschool programming that is more sing-a-long oriented.
