About radio
CSR FM, short for Community and Student Radio, is a student and community radio station based in Canterbury, England. The station is primarily funded by the University of Kent & Kent Union and is run by volunteers within CSR’s Committee and their student union partner.
The station first aired on 15th January 2007 and was the first student-led community radio station in the country to acquire a community FM license. Originally, it was broadcasting on 97.4 FM, but it has since discontinued FM broadcasting.
CSR FM has a rich history, with student radio existing in Canterbury since 1966, initially on an unlicensed basis. The station is a combined effort from the student unions of the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, who decided to make a single bid for the Canterbury community radio license.
Over the years, CSR FM has been recognized for its outreach projects and has hosted diverse programming, including daytime shows, specialist music, and speech-based radio programming. The station has aimed to provide a wide range of programs and shows to suit everyone, with a fully operational broadcast studio located at the Student Media Centre on the University of Kent campus. The station has broadcasted 24/7, 365 days a year.
