About radio
Pendle Community Radio is a vibrant and dynamic online radio station based in Nelson, Lancashire, broadcasting on 103.1 MHz FM. Since it began its broadcasts in September 2007, the station has aimed to provide dedicated programming to the Asian Muslim population that resides in Pendle, East Lancashire, particularly during times of Muslim holy festivals. At the same time, it has a broader mission to promote "social gain" for all local communities through on-air access via voluntary opportunities and to help with community cohesion and integration, economic regeneration, and political wellbeing.
The radio station has a rich history, dating back to 1999, with several short-term Restricted Service Licence broadcasts awarded by Ofcom and its predecessor, The Radio Authority. These broadcasts usually ran twice a year, each for 28 days, to coincide with Eid ul-Fitr (Ramadhan) and Milad un Nabi, leading to the station's alternating names of Radio Ramadhan or Milaad FM. Following the success of these broadcasts, Ofcom awarded a full-time 5-year community radio licence in 2006 to the same group that ran the RSLs, leading to the establishment of Pendle Community Radio as we know it today.
This radio station has a diverse team of professionals and volunteers, led by Current Directors Sagheer Akhtar and Shahid Kaleem, which includes technical professionals, presenters, and guests. The team works hard to outline and achieve the station's aims and objectives for the coming years.
