About radio
The BBC World Service News is an international broadcaster owned and operated by the BBC. As the world's largest external broadcaster in terms of reception area, language selection, and audience reach, it broadcasts radio news, speech, and discussions in more than 40 languages to many parts of the world. It's a global station with a format comprising news, sports, and talk, that was launched on 19 December 1932.
You can listen live to the BBC World Service News online and on various platforms including DAB Digital Radio, DStv, Freesat, Freeview (UK), Radioplayer UK, Sky, and Virgin Media. The service maintains eight regional feeds covering areas such as East and South Africa, West and Central Africa, Europe and Middle East, the Americas and Caribbean, East Asia, South Asia, Australasia, and the United Kingdom. There are also two separate online-only streams with one being more news-oriented, known as News Internet.
BBC World Service News provides the latest five-minute news bulletin, ensuring that listeners are always updated on current events. The station offers a variety of programs such as the Global News podcast, which features the best stories, interviews, and on-the-spot reporting from around the world, as well as Newshour, which brings interviews, news, and analysis of the day's global events. The program 'Business Matters' connects the US with Asia, providing discussions on business trends as the day begins in the US and ends in Asia, while 'Click' offers news and discussion on global technology trends, social media, and internet developments. Another notable program is 'Fifty Women Making It Happen', highlighting women from across the world who are changing their world and ours.
